Brotherhood Memorial Ride Rumbles Through Zelienople

Now in its fourth year, the event honors Zelienople firefighters Sam Bucci, Elijah Lunsford and Trevor Barkley.

Hundreds of motorcycles hit the streets in Zelienople Sunday for the annual Brotherhood Memorial Ride.

Now in its fourth year, the event raises money for scholarship funds in honor of fallen Zelienople firefighters Sam Bucci and Elijah Lunsford and honorary firefighter Trevor Barkley.

The teens, who were students at Seneca Valley High School, drowned in January 2010 after the sport utility vehicle in which they were riding went out of control and rolled upside down into a icy pond near the Zelienople-Harmony Sportsmen’s club.

Registration took place at the Zelienople Fire Department on West Beaver Street.

With the scholarships fully endowed, the ride has since benefited the Zelienople Memorial Skate Park, injured officers from the Cranberry Township and Zelienople Police Departments and the family of Doug Pickett, a former assistant chief at the Harmony Volunteer Fire Company. Pickett, 46, died from a heart attack last April
