Cranberry Reschedules Pittsburgh Philharmonic, Jill West Concerts

Keep your fingers crossed for decent weather.

Cranberry’s Parks and Recreation department has rescheduled an outdoor concert by the 60-member Pittsburgh Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra for 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23 at the Rotary Amphitheatre at

The concert originally was supposed to take place July 26 but was canceled because of wet weather.

Storms also caused the cancelation of the Jill West and the Blues Attack concert Aug. 9. That event has been rescheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, also at Community Park.

The North Hills-based Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, which has performed 10 to 15 concerts a year for the past 30 years, includes members from as far away as Ohio. Its mission involves both performance and music education.

Vocalist Jill West's concert will feature her Pittsburgh-based, hard-edged dance quintet, which received its blues education playing in the city's smoky bars and sharing the stage with various musical greats, a statement from the township said.

The rescheduled concerts extend Cranberry's Thursdays in the Park series by two weeks.

Admission and parking are both free. Guests are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs, blankets, and other personal comfort items. Cranberry Rotary members will operate a refreshment stand at the concert site.
