Seneca Valley Boys Soccer Climbs into Second Place

Raiders in good position at the halfway point.

The Seneca Valley Raiders started off the season in great style, with a 5-0 record and 2 conference wins.

But after losing two games to Hampton and Pine-Richland, the Raiders found themselves in fourth place in the competitive Section 2 AAA conference.

Since then, the Raiders have begun to turn the tide.

On Tuesday, the Raiders won a key game against the tough Hampton Talbots at Hampton Stadium. Anthony Crivelli struck first for the Raiders midway through the first half with a nice unassisted goal.

The Seneca defense, lead by Brock Wagner, Colter Cekella, Sean Edwards, and Joe DeAugustion kept Hampton scoreless through halftime.

The lead would not last long.

In the second half, Hampton scored to tie the game at 1-1. Both teams became more aggressive and a number of yellow cards were issued.

At one point, attempting to get control of the game, the referees assigned yellow cards to both coaches. Both defenses held tough with no more goals scored in regulation.

Because this was a conference game, there was a 10 minute “sudden death” overtime period. Both teams created scoring opportunities, which required several exciting saves by Raider keeper Colton Smith.

With a little more than three minutes to go in the period, the Raiders came down the field. As a crowd formed in the Hampton box, Crivelli was able to get control of the ball and hit the net for the game-winning score.

This was Seneca’s third win in a row—and the victory was revenge for an earlier loss to Hampton.

Recent wins against Butler and North Allegheny have put the Raiders in a good spot as the second half of the season gets under way.
