Video: Fun in the Sun at Rowan Elementary Field Day

The elementary school holds its annual field day Tuesday and Wednesday.

Since he came to Rowan Elementary 19 years ago, physical education teacher Mike Manipole has organized "Field Day," a two-day event of fun physical activities for the school's students.

On Tuesday, more than 200 second- and third-grade students spent the afternoon outdoors dancing, playing games and splashing in the water from a sprinkler. On Wednesday, it was the first-  and fourth-grade students’ turn to spend the day in the sun.

Manipole, who also is a Cranberry Township supervisor, said around 400 parents volunteered for Field Day activities. On both days, the event ended with the much-anticipated tug-of-wars between the different classes.
