Seneca Valley senior Luke Carter arranges for the band to play at the venue as part of his senior project.

As the front man for his Christian band, 18-year-old Luke Carter has long had in interest in producing a rock show.

So he made it happen—and for a good cause.

As part of his senior project, which requires for graduation, Carter arranged for Christian rock band Third From First to perform at in Zelienople. The charity event will raise money for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

“I’m very excited to have the chance to organize this type of concert, not just because of an obligation for graduation but because it’s a great cause and I love this type of music,” Carter said. Third from First will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Carter’s band, Iron Scepter, will make its debut Saturday as Third from First’s opening act.

Tickets for the event cost $10 with all proceeds benefitting St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Celebrating its 50th year in 2012, the Tennessee-based hospital is known for its pioneering work with children who are diagnosed with pediatric cancer and other diseases.

A second-degree black belt in Tang Soo Do, Carter said he first became familiar with St. Jude’s in October when he participated in a “Break-A-Thon” to raise money for the hospital.

“Our karate studio ended up doing a fundraiser for them, so I knew they were a pretty big organization,” he said.

Carter, whose father is president of The Strand Theater Initiative, took charge of publicizing the event, including creating a press release. He added this is the second time Third from First has performed at the venue.

“So far, there are a lot of people getting involved,” he said.
