Storti, Scalamogna Say Good-bye to Seneca Valley School Board

Monday's meeting is the last for the district officials.

After eight years of helping to lead the school district, school board member Anthony Storti attended his last meeting on Monday.

“I’m a little sad,” he said. “I enjoyed working here in the last eight years.”

After making a promise to himself and his family to limit himself to two terms on the board, Storti chose not to seek re-election this year.

His seat in Region Two representing Cranberry Township will be taken over in 2012 by who ran a successful campaign in both the primary and general elections.

Storti spoke of the accomplishments the district made while he was on board, saying he is particularly proud of its leap from 48 to 16 in the Pittsburgh Business Times annual ranking of Western Pennsylvania public schools. The rankings are based on how district students perform on Pennsylvania System of School Assessment exams.

Currently president of the Cranberry Township Athletic Association, Storti said he is sorry he won’t work more with Dr. Tracy Vitale, who was in late September.

Board president Robert Hill told Storti he would be missed. He also called Storti's eight-year dedication to the board noble.

“You are one of the biggest reasons we are what we are today,” he said.

Monday's meeting also was the last for Joe Scalamogna, who is ending his first term. He was defeated for the Region 7 seat representing Evans City and Seven Fields by Kelly Kopera in the May primary election.

Scalamogna was unable to attend Monday’s meeting because of a family emergency, Hill said. In a message, however, he expressed his best wishes to the board and the district's taxpayers.
