Seneca Valley Student to Represent Pittsburgh in International Science and Engineering Fair

Andrew Lingenfelter won first place at the Pittsburgh Regional Science and Engineering Fair in March.

Andrew Lingenfelter, a freshman at, has earned his way to the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair. 

Andrew, son of Thor and Holly Lingenfelter of Evans City, competed March 30 at the Pittsburgh Regional Science and Engineering Fair at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh. 

Although it was his first science fair competition, Andrew competed in the senior division of robotics and engineering category with his project, “Designing a Low-Cost, Versatile, Warzone Military Robot.”

Not only did Andrew place first in his category—which included those in grades nine through 12—he also won four different sponsor awards from various companies and the U.S. Army. 

Andrew and his project also were selected to represent the Pittsburgh region at this year’s International Science and Engineering Fair, which takes place in May in Pittsburgh.

“As a freshman, this is quite a distinguished honor,” said Patti Griest, a Seneca Valley gifted support teacher and Andrew’s project sponsor. “Andrew will be competing against high school students from 65 other countries including the United States.”
