The Raiders win a tournament to open 2012 season

The 2011 WPIAL Class AAA Section 2 champion Seneca Valley Raiders continued their winning ways over the weekend by taking the Intersection Kick-Off Classic tournament.

During Friday's game at Chartiers Valley High School, the Raiders defeated a tough Norwin team by a score of 2-0.

Seneca Valley took an early lead nine minutes into the contest with a goal by forward Ryan Vilella. A few minutes later, the Raiders scored a second goal with a nice kick by forward Anthony Crivelli.

The defense took over for the rest of the game as Norwin came out very aggressively in the second half. The Raiders were able to maintain and keep the Knights scoreless to win the game.

The Raiders continued their dominance in the championship game Saturday at Baldwin High School. Facing the Chartiers Valley Colts, Seneca Valley took a 2-0 lead in the first half. Ryan Vilella scored the first goal. Anthony Crivelli added a second score on a penalty kick.

In the second half, Vilella provided a nice cross pass to Crivelli, who converted it for SV’s third goal of the game. 

A fourth, unassisted goal was scored by Jared Myers midway through the half and sealed the deal for the Raiders. The Seneca Valley defense held the Colts to four shots on goal, securing consecutive shutouts for the Raiders.

The Raiders face their first section game against Hampton at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at .
