Updated: Seneca Valley Baseball Team Falls Short of State Playoff Final

Conestoga defeats Raiders, 11-1.

High School’s ended Monday when the Raiders baseball team came up a game short or reaching the PIAA Class AAAA final.

The Raiders finished the season with an 18-4 record following an 11-1 loss to Conestoga in a state semifinal matchup Monday night at Chambersburg. Seneca Valley won nine of its final 10 games.

“Sometimes, you just get beat and you have to give them credit,” Seneca Valley coach Eric Semega said. “They were the better team today.”

Seneca Valley led 1-0 in the first inning on sophomore Brad Gresock’s single and senior Kyle Gorniak’s RBI double.

The Raiders put two more runners on base in the second inning, but Conestoga winning pitcher Austin Little pitched out of the potential big inning.

Little effectively combined his curveball, fastball and change-up, retiring 13 of the final 14 batters in the game which ended after six innings due to the 10-run rule.

Conestoga scored four runs in the second inning and five more in the fourth with Ryan Richter and Jake Carr delivering RBI doubles.

Seneca Valley junior starting pitcher Zach Detillio worked three and one-third innings.

Seneca Valley advanced to the state semifinals with an 8-5 June 6 at Butler, followed by a 6-4 decision Thursday at North Allegheny.

Seneca Valley’s spring sports teams also picked up a . The Raiders softball team before losing to Latrobe, and the Seneca Valley boys volleyball also in Class AAAA.

Conestoga (21-4) will play Spring Ford (25-4) in the Quad-A baseball final at 6 p.m. Friday at Penn State’s Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.
