Savings Alert: Seneca Valley Green Lights New Notification System
The district will save thousands with the system, according to officials.
Seneca Valley officials are being alerted to a new notification system that will save the district thousands of dollars.
On Monday’s meeting, school board members approved a 36-month agreement with SchoolMessenger to provide on-demand mass phone and electronic notifications for emergency and non-emergency alerts, including inclement weather delays and cancellations and school events.
The cost for the system is $1.50 per student for a total of $10,800 per year.

SchoolMessenger will replace the AlertNow system, which has been in place at the district for at least five years, at the start of the 2013-14 school year.
Linda Andreassi, Seneca Valley’s director of communications, said the switch should save the district about $7,000 annually.

While she said the new system will provide more internal features for administrators, Andreassi said parents shouldn’t notice a difference in the notifications sent to them by the school.
