Unlike last year’s homecoming parade, which was canceled due to wet weather, Thursday’s festivities got off to a fine (and dry) start at Seneca Valley's secondary campus.

Sitting atop a convertible, new athletic director Heather Lewis led the parade to NextTier Stadium in Jackson Township. As she waved to the crowd, people called out welcomes to her.

The parade also included this year’s homecoming court members, who rode in open convertibles, and floats carrying the district’s sports teams, booster clubs and class officers. The theme for this year’s event is Candyland.

The carnival portion included food and craft booths from various clubs and sports organizations. The Seneca Valley Marching Band also performed its halftime show for fans. The evening ended with fireworks

As for the big game, the king and queen will be crowned prior to kickoff during tonight’s 7 p.m. homecoming game against Connellsville at NexTier Stadium. The dance will take place from 7 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday at the secondary campus in Jackson Township.
