Photo Gallery: Scenes from 'Mix It Up Lunch Day' at Seneca Valley Middle School

The seventh and eighth-graders participated in the national event encouraging students to get to know each other better.

On Tuesday, students at participated in the 10th annual Mix It Up at Lunch Day, a nationwide event designed to foster respect and understanding in schools.

For the event, the teens for lunch. They were assigned temporary tables for the meal by drawing random numbers out of a box. Each table also was stocked with discussion questions that the students can ask each other in hopes of getting the conversation going.

This is the second year the school has participated in Mix It Up Day. Andrea Peck, assistant principal at the middle school, said the students would discuss today how they felt about the lunch.

"Even though the lunches were a bit more quiet than usual, students were very cooperative and open to the activity," she said.
