New Catholic High School 'About 50 Percent Complete'

The new Catholic high school being built in Cranberry Township is about 50 percent complete, according to the Pittsburgh Catholic Newspaper.

Astorino, the architect for the new Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic High School, gave an update on construction to the freshman class of 38 students at the current North Catholic High School during a recent workshop.

The site design is inspired by the rosary—featuring five pieces—with the chapel in the middle, according to the report.

The design is also focused on making sure the 43 classrooms get natural light.

The school's red and gold colors and Trojan logo will be incorporated in the interior design of the space.

Another way the school will maintain tradition will be the installing of one of the bells from the demolished St. Nicholas Church from Pittsburgh's North Side.

Astorino architects told the newspaper that they make sure to interview clients to make sure they design just the right space. For example, the architects interviewed children before they built the colorful, new Children’s Hospital Lawrenceville.

Some of the other projects Astorino has completed include the Chapel of the Holy Spirit at the Vatican, PNC Park and the re-stabilization of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater, according to the report.

The new high school will reportedly be featured when the Diocese of Pittsburgh hosts the National Catholic Educational Association convention April 22-24, 2014. Class is set to begin in the fall of 2014.
