It's Official—Rowan Elementary Has a New Principal

Nannette Farmar has been acting principal at the school since December.

Rowan Elementary school officially has a new principal.

At Monday’s school board meeting, Seneca Valley officials appointed Nanette Farmar as principal of the building in Cranberry. She will be paid a salary of $94,500.

Farmar, a Gibsonia resident, has been acting principal at the school since early December, when former longtime principal Dr. John Giancola left the district to take a position as an English as a Second Language supervisor with the Allegheny Intermediate Unit.

Already a familiar face in the district, Farmar has served as assistant principal at Rowan and Connoquenessing Valley Elementary in the district for the last five years.

She also spent time as the coordinator of the Seneca Valley Title 1 Reading Program, a federally funded supplemental program that provides financial assistance to schools to improve opportunities for disadvantaged children.

Prior to that, she taught in the Kiski Area School District as well as the Talbot County Public School system.

Farmar has a bachelor of science in elementary and kindergarten education from Penn State University and a masters degree in administrative and policy studies from the University of Pittsburgh.

She also attended a yearlong course at Duquesne University for its reading specialist program.
