Haine Middle School Students are Academic Champions
Three sixth-graders out-think competition to be named national champions.
At Monday's Seneca Valley School Board meeting, officials honored Emily Scanlan, Emily Winterhalter and Daniel Popp. The sixth-graders at all were named national champions at the National Academic Games Tournament in Kissimmee, Fla, earlier this month.
The district also had six top 10 finishes in both individual and team performances.
In Academic Games, students try to out-think each other in the areas of math, language arts, and social studies. Throughout the year, Seneca Valley -- which has academic teams for students in sixth through 12th grade -- competes against schools from around the area in the hopes of qualifying as many students as possible for the national tournament.
