Superintendent Dr. Tracy Vitale noted Friday’s commencement ceremony marked an important milestone at Seneca Valley—the district’s birthday.

“While this great school district has existed for 55 years, this years marks the 25th year we have existed as the Seneca Valley School District,” Vitale told the crowd of students, faculty, family and friends gathered at NexTier Stadium.

Drawing a laugh from the crowd, she noted Friday’s graduating seniors would be in their 40s when the district celebrates its 50th anniversary.

She also asked the students to consider what paths they plan to take in the next 25 years, and what they will accomplish in them.

“Most of you will be established in your careers, many of you will be raising a family and, hopefully, all of you will be productive, active members of our community,” she said.

Also speaking during the commencement ceremony were the top-three ranked graduating students in the class. A fourth student, Jennifer Hutchinson, was chosen to speak to the crowd through an audition process.

In her address, Hutchinson encouraged her fellow students to be the authors of their own lives as they start this next chapter.

“It seems like our entire lives have been leading up to this one moment,” she said. “And that what seems to be the end, is really just a new beginning.”
