Back-to-School: Here's What's Happening at Seneca Valley

The end of summer is around the corner—and that means your students will soon be heading back to school. 

In preparation for class, there are several important dates for students, parents and teachers to mark on their calendars.

New Teacher Induction

Held Monday, Aug. 20 and Tuesday, Aug. 21, these service days introduce new teachers to the Seneca Valley system.

Seneca Valley Band Booster Annual Pie Festival

Enjoy a slice of pie and catch a live performance

Pie serving will begin at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23 in the cafeteria. There also will be pie available after the band’s debut performance of its 2012-2013 halftime show featuring the music of Chicago and Earth, Wind and Fire!

The band performance kicks off at 6:30 p.m. at NexTier Stadium. The cost is $4 per person and includes pie, ice cream, iced tea or juice and viewing of the band performance. Tickets will be sold at the door and entrance to the field. Whole pies will be sold for $9.

Teacher In-Service Days

The district’s educators will take part in professional development and training sessions on Thursday, Aug. 23, Friday, Aug. 24 and Monday, Aug. 27.

First Day of School

Here’s the date everyone has been waiting for. Students will head back to class Tuesday, Aug. 28. Check the Cranberry Patch Back to School guide for more Back to School tips and information.

Veteran Recognition Night/First Home Football Game of the Season

will take on the Butler Area Tornados in the first home game of the season at 7 p.m. Friday Aug. 31 at NexTier Stadium.

The district also will hold its annual . During a pre-game ceremony, veterans and active military personnel will gather at stadium track and be recognized for their service to country. They also will receive free admission and special seating and parking accommodations for the game.

“This is a night that is very near and dear to our heart and, quite frankly, it mentors our young athletes that evening,” Superintendent Dr. Tracy Vitale said of the event.

Labor Day

Time to sleep in! There’s no school on Monday, Sept. 3.
