Zelienople Borough Manager Ordained a Catholic Deacon

Don Pepe will continue with his duties as borough manager.

Zelienople borough Manager Don Pepe is also a Catholic deacon.

Bishop David Zubik ordained Pepe last month, according to the Tribune Review.

Being a deacon will not interfere with Pepe's job.

Deacons can proclaim the Gospel, assist the priest during Mass and minister at hospitals and nursing homes. They can also do baptisms and witness marriages, but they cannot celebrate Mass, consecrate the Eucharist, hear confession or anoint the sick, according to the newspaper.

Pepe was assigned to St. Gregory Catholic Church in Zelienople and St. Matthias Catholic Church in Evans City.

He told the newspaper he had always thought about becoming a priest, so becoming a deacon has filled a void.
