Traffic on Southbound I-79 Will be Down to Single Lanes Again

Traffic restrictions will start at 7 tonight in area of Warrendale-Bayne Road interchange.

Traffic on southbound I-79 will be shifted in the area of the Warrendale-Bayne Road interchange [Exit 75] tonight, PennDOT District 11 announced.

Single-lane traffic restrictions will occur in both directions from 7 tonight till noon Saturday. Crews will be shifting traffic from the left to the newly completed right side of the bridges over Warrendale-Bayne Road. Work to complete the shifts includes resetting barriers and line painting.

Southbound restrictions will begin first followed by northbound restrictions after rush-hour traffic subsides this evening.

The shifts are necessary to allow crews to continue expansion dam replacements and barrier/railings repairs, according to PennDOT.

Once the shifts are completed, two lanes of traffic will be maintained in each direction on I-79 in the bridge area through early/mid-December when long-term restrictions are removed, PennDOT said in a news release.

The work is part of a $10 million project to improve several I-79 bridges. The project is scheduled to be completed this fall.

The prime contractor for the project is Swank Associated Companies Inc. of New Kensington.
