Simply Put: Avoid I-79 on Friday Night and Saturday

PennDOT predicts significant delays for area between Wexford and Cranberry exits.

When PennDOT warns you of significant delays on I-79 between the Wexford and Cranberry exits and suggests taking another route, you know it’s going to be bad.

From 7 p.m. Friday until 5 p.m. Saturday, the six-lane highway will be limited to one lane in both directions, according to PennDOT District 11. Southbound restrictions will begin first on Friday evening.

Weather permitting, crews will be milling, paving and line painting.

The same restrictions will occur next weekend, Nov. 4-5.

The work is part of a $10 million project that is scheduled to be completed this fall. Swank Construction Co. LLC of New Kensington is the project's prime contractor. The work includes deck replacements, latex overlays, expansion dam replacements, substructure repairs, bituminous paving, drainage and guide rail upgrades, pavement markings, culvert cleaning and stream restoration and other improvements on several I-79 bridges.
