Short-Term Lane Closures Continue This Week on I-79

The work will take place between the Wexford and Cranberry exits.

Motorists should prepare for starts and stops while driving Interstate 79 over the next week.

There will be daily short-term lane closures on the highway between Exits 78-72 in Allegheny County, weather permitting, a statement from PennDOT said. The work will take place Monday through Friday of this week.

Crews will continue to install cable median barrier and guide rail. Single lane closures will occur according to the following schedule:

Northbound:

  • From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. between Exits 72-73 (I-279 and Wexford)
  • From 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. between Exits 73-76 (Wexford and Cranberry/Route 19)

Southbound:

  • From 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. between Exits 78-73 (Cranberry/PA Turnpike and Wexford)

No restrictions will occur on Friday. There also will be no weekend work.

PennDOT advises drivers to use caution, slow down and expect changing traffic patterns when traveling through the area.

The prime contractor for the work is Swank Associated Companies Inc. of New Kensington.
