Shoppers Rejoice: McKnight Road Restrictions to End Tuesday

Lane closures not expected to impact holiday shopping traffic.

The long-term traffic restrictions on McKnight Road at the bridge over Babcock Boulevard in Ross Township are set to end late Tuesday evening, according to PennDOT District 11. The long-term lane closures had been in place since June.

Off-peak, short-term restrictions will continue as needed on McKnight Road from Nelson Run Road to Perrymont Road through early 2012.

There will be no restrictions that will impact holiday shopping traffic, PennDOT said. 

The $8.8 million, 4.6-mile project includes milling and resurfacing, concrete pavement patching, drainage, guide rail, concrete barrier, curb and sidewalk improvements, curb ramp installation, signing and pavement markings and signal upgrades on McKnight Road between Nelson Run Road and Perrymont Road.

Preservation also will occur on the bridge that carries McKnight Road over Babcock Boulevard, including latex modified concrete deck surfacing, resetting rocker bearings, pedestrian railing repairs, concrete repairs and other improvements.

The prime contractor is Lindy Paving Inc. of New Castle. Overall work should conclude in spring 2012.
