Reminder: Freedom Road Construction Begins Today

Project includes widening of the busy corridor.

Today the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation kicks off a $1.52 million project to widen Freedom Road from Haine School Road to Haldeman Drive and make other improvements.

Construction will take place between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. each evening. According to the Cranberry Township website, the work should not require lane closures. Traffic will be managed by existing traffic signals and flaggers as needed.

The work includes widening Freedom Road from two to three lanes, installating of a new traffic signal system and upgrading intersection safety.

The major construction work is expected to be complete by winter, according to officials with PennDOT's District 10.

One of the township's busiest corridors, Freedom Road has a traffic volume of roughly 25,566 vehicles per day. It was last paved in 1997, according to the PennDOT District 10 website.
