PUC Hearing First Step toward Taxi Service to Cranberry

Yellow Cab may come to our area, but process could take months.

Will there be cab service in ?

Maybe, but not in the immediate future.

The on Tuesday held a preliminary hearing in Pittsburgh on a request by the Yellow Cab Company of Pittsburgh to offer services in Cranberry Township, Seven Fields, Mars and Adams Township. Its request to expand its service area also includes Pine and Marshall townships, Bradford Woods and Franklin Park in Allegheny County.

Denise McCracken, spokeswoman for the PUC, said the next step would be for Administrative Law Judge Mary Long to review the court transcripts. The judge has 90 days after the close of the records to issue a decision. McCracken said she did not know when the records would be considered closed.

After Long’s decision, the five-member commission will review the case and either accept or modify the decision.

“It isn’t written in stone how long that would take, but they usually act fairly quickly,” said McCracken.

If Yellow Cab is allowed to expand its services to the above areas, it will then have to file tariff documents within 30 days of the commission’s decision.

“Basically, the tariff tells us what they will charge,” said McCracken.

Although the process could take several months, it could move faster, according to McCracken.

Jamie Campolongo, president and chief executive officer of Yellow Cab and its parent company, Pittsburgh Transportation Group, said the company hoped to expand taxi services due to increased demand in southern Butler County.
