Local elections are of particular importance. These candidates are the people who will represent you when it comes to determining tax rates, drafting new ordinances and reviewing the businesses that enter the community.

Locally, three residents are running for Cranberry Township’s Board of Supervisors for the seat being vacated by Supervisor Dave Root.

Cranberry Township Volunteer Fire Company President Bruce Hezlep and Seneca Valley School Board member Eric Gordon are vying for the Republican nomination.

The winner of the May primary will face the Democratic contender, Michael Warrington, in the fall general election.

Because no others are running on the Democratic ticket, Warrington—barring write-in votes—should move on to the general election.

Seneca Valley School Board

A handful of new faces also will be running for Seneca Valley’s school board in the May primary election.

Frederick V. Peterson, Jr., of Cranberry, has cross-filed to run on the Democratic and Republican ticket for the Cranberry Township West IV and West VI, Region 4 area currently represented by school board member Jason Wehrle.

Wehrle, a lawyer from Cranberry whose first term expires this year, has chosen not to run for the board in 2013.

Two Cranberry residents, Timothy Hester and Judi Rexford, also are vying for the Cranberry Township East III and West V, Region 5 seat that will be vacated by Gordon.

Both Hester and Rexford cross-filed to run on the Republican and Democratic tickets.

Several familiar faces also are making another run for seats on the board.

School board member Jeanette Lahm, of Cranberry, is running unopposed on the Democratic and Republican ticket for a four-year term representing the Cranberry Township East I and II, Region 1 area.

School Board vice-president Eric DiTullio also cross-filed for the Republican and Democratic nomination. A Harmony resident, he is running uncontested to represent the Lancaster and Forward townships, Region 8 area.

In addition, Evans City resident James Welsh is running unopposed for the Republican nomination for the Callery and Harmony Boroughs and Jackson Township, Region 9 area. He did not cross-file to run on the Democratic ticket.
