Population Increase Leads to Potential Pay Increase for Cranberry Supervisors

Ordinance would increase salary by $250.

Because the township's population is rising, may see a small jump in pay.

At Thursday’s meeting, officials approved advertising an ordinance that would increase the supervisors’ yearly salary from $4,125 to $4,375—an increase of $250.

The increase would apply only in 2012 to two newly elected supervisors and beyond.

After , board Chairman and Vice Chairman are running for the two open seats on the Republican ticket. There are no contenders on the Democrat ballot for the Nov. 8 election, although a write-in campaign is possible.

Results from the 2010 census showed rose from 23,625 to 28,098 in the last 10 years. The population increase allows for a compensation adjustment to supervisors’ salary.

At a workshop meeting last week, Supervisor Dave Root said officials should consider declining the increase. He said he already donates his salary to charity.

“I’d recommend getting rid of any compensation for board members,” he said.

Supervisors will vote on the increase Dec. 1.
