I-79 Short-Term Lane Closures Begin Today Between I-279 and Cranberry

Work is scheduled to be completed Feb. 3 if the weather permits.

Just when you thought the lane closures on Interstate 79 were over, along comes another one.

Starting today, daily short-term lane closures will occur between Exits 72 (I-279) and 78 (Cranberry/Route 228) as crews install cable median barriers and guide rails, PennDOT announced.

No weekend work is planned, and the project is scheduled to be completed Feb. 3, weather permitting.

Here is the schedule for the single-lane closures:

  • From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. between Exits 72 and 73 (I-279 and Route 910/Wexford)
  • From 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. between Exits 73 and 76 (Wexford and Cranberry/Route 19)

  • From 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. between Exits 78-73 (Cranberry/Route 228 and Wexford)

Southbound restrictions will be lifted by 5 p.m. on Jan. 31 for the Penguins home game.

PennDOT advises motorists to use caution, slow down and expect changing traffic patterns when traveling through the area.

The prime contractor for the work is Swank Associated Companies Inc. of New Kensington.
