I-79 Lane Closures Set for Thursday, Friday and Saturday

PennDOT recommends avoiding the highway over the weekend.

Motorists might want to avoid Interstate 79 in Marshall Township today and through the weekend.

If weather permits, there will be short-term lane closures on Thursday, Friday and Saturday between Exits 73 and 75 in the area of the Warrendale-Bayne Road interchange and the bridge over Mingo Road, according to PennDOT.

Crews will be installing compression seals, sealing and doing other work needed to complete the bridge rehabilitation projects.

The single lane closures will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday and Friday in the Warrendale-Bayne Road interchange area.

On Saturday, there will be single-lane traffic from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. in both areas.

Significant delays should be expected on Saturday. PennDOT advises drivers to allow extra time on the highway and to consider alternate routes.

The $10 million project includes deck replacements, latex overlays, expansion dam replacements, substructure repairs, bituminous paving, drainage and guide rail upgrades, pavement markings, culvert cleaning and stream restoration and other improvements on several I-79 bridges.

All ramps and exits will remain open through construction at this time. The overall project is set for completion in early 2012. The prime contractor for the project is Swank Associated Companies Inc. of New Kensington.

PennDOT advises motorists to use caution, slow down and expect changing traffic patterns when traveling through the area. Travelers may log on to 511pa.com or call 511 to check traffic conditions on major roadways.
