Freedom Road Improvement Project Begins Monday

PennDOT says construction should last through winter.

One of Cranberry’s busiest corridors is about to undergo construction.

On Monday, PennDOT will begin a $1.52 million project to widen Freedom Road from Haine School Road to Haldeman Drive.

Construction will take place between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. each evening. Traffic work during the night will have alternating single-lanes controlled by flaggers. The traffic then will be shifted to the widened areas to allow for remaining widening and median construction. PennDOT’s District 10 said this work would be performed between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. and feature one lane in each direction.

The major construction work is expected to be complete by winter of 2011, according to PennDOT.

The work includes widening Freedom Road from two to three lanes and the installation of new traffic signals and left turn lanes. The new traffic signals will be installed at the intersections of Thorn Hill Road and Haldeman Drive. PennDOT said there also will be resurfacing and new pavement markings.
