Expect Bottleneck on I-79 Friday Night Near Wexford Exit

Restrictions will occur from 7 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday.

Delays and stops can be expected Friday night as traffic moves into a bottleneck on I-79 in the area of the bridge over Mingo Road north of Exit 73/Wexford, according to PennDOT.

From 7 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday, traffic will be reduced to a single lane in both directions, weather permitting. Southbound restrictions will occur first followed by northbound work.

Crews will be installing seals on the approaches and deck of the new bridges.

The work is part of a $10 million project that includes deck replacements, latex overlays, expansion dam replacements, substructure repairs, bituminous paving, drainage and guide rail upgrades, pavement markings, culvert cleaning and stream restoration, and other improvements on several I-79 bridges.

All ramps and exits will remain open.

The overall project is scheduled to be completed this fall. The prime contractor is Swank Associated Companies Inc. of New Kensington.
