Cranberry Officials Approve Plans for Sheetz, Cranberry Crossroads

Two new developments in Cranberry Township are a step closer to construction.

At Thursday’s board of supervisors meeting, Cranberry officials unanimously approved plans for a new and gas station on Freedom Road. They also approved plans for the shopping center, which will consist of 98,940 square feet of retail space with a two-story Dick’s Sporting Goods store at its center. The shopping complex will be built at a former KOA campground next to the already established Cranberry Commons shopping center on Route 228.

The development also includes 90,000 square feet of business and professional office space, a 6,300-square-foot restaurant and a 5,569-square-foot GetGo fueling station and car wash on 24 acres of land.

ECHO Realty, a Pittsburgh-based real estate and retail development company, is developing the retail space. Pittsburgh's Elmhurst Group is responsible for the office space.

ECHO’s Phil Bishop has said groundbreaking on Cranberry Crossroads could begin by fall.

The proposed Sheetz will be built at the site of a former beer distributor on Old Freedom Road that’s about 300 feet from a smaller Sheetz station that’s been on Freedom Road for the last 15 years.

The Plans were approved after a public hearing on the gas station last week. During the hearing representatives from Sheetz said they had settled a driveway issue with Dr. Mike Sradomski, who operates a dental practice next to the proposed gas station.

Sradomski had been concerned about restrictions placed on a shared driveway in an agreement with Sheetz. The driveway would connect his property to the Sheetz parking lot and would provide access to an intersection with a traffic signal on Freedom Road. David Hazelet, director of development for Sheetz, said the company and Sradomski have since come to an agreement.

The access will not be revoked as long as Sradomski's use of the driveway does not change. The agreement does not allow for expansion of Sradomski’s dental practice.

David Mastrostefano, engineering permit manager for Sheetz, said he hopes to start construction next year.
