“We’re leaving no stone unturned,” said John Trant, Cranberry’s chief strategic planning officer.

Trant said updating the parks and recreation activities is part of the Cranberry Plan, a long-term map of the township’s growth. Leading the project is consultant Tom Comitta, a town planner and landscape architect from West Chester.

Trant said Comitta was hired using a $50,000 grant from the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

As for what the future of Cranberry’s parks and pathways will look like, Trant said that still was to be determined. A citizens advisory committee on the project was held for the first time on Wednesday.

Comitta said the group of about 10 residents would outline a plan for the township’s parks and recreation activities. He said a resident who also is a runner already has suggested that as a safety measure, call boxes similar to those at the Penn State  campus should be placed in the parks.

Comitta said there also are plans to mail surveys to residents asking them what they’d like to see in Cranberry Township.

He hopes to return to officials in April with a more concrete plan for the future of Cranberry’s park and recreation. In the meantime, he said, project members are busy analyzing the area’s current parks and activities.

“We’ll be back,” he promised.
