Doris Goehring was attempting to make a left out of the Northgate Shopping Plaza.

An elderly woman has died from injuries she sustained Tuesday after the car she was driving collided with a garbage truck in front of Northgate Plaza on Route 19 in Jackson Township.

Jackson Police Chief Terry Seilhamer said Doris Goehring, 88, of Zelienople, died Wednesday morning.

The chief said Goehring was attempting making a left turn out of the parking lot in front of the Bi-LO grocery store when a an oncoming Vogel garbage disposal truck struck her Chevrolet Malibu.

Witnesses who saw the accident said the Mack truck was not speeding, Seilhamer said.

Officers on the scene said it did not appear that either Goehring or her passenger, her son, Randi Goehring, of Zelienople had life-threatening injuries.

Seilhamer said Goehring was conscious and talking with police after the crash took place.

“Apparently her condition was worse than it appeared initially,” he said.

Both mother and son were taken by ambulance to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment. Goehring died at 7:45 a.m. Wednesday morning of blunt force trauma to the pelvis, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office.

Seilhamer did not know the extent of Randi Goehring’s injuries.

The garbage truck owner was not hurt in the crash. Seilhamer said no charges would be filed in the collision.
