Cranberry, Zelienople Under Flood Watch Through Friday

There is potential for flooding along streams and low-lying area tonight.

The National Weather Service has placed the Cranberry and Zelienople area under a flood watch through Friday morning. With an expected rainfall of 1 inch, plus a half inch of snow melt, there is a potential for flooding along streams and low-lying areas.

The watch went into effect at 1 p.m. Thursday.

Jason Daily, Cranberry's director of public works, said the township is prepared to act if flooding occurs. Any earlier forecast with a warm front moving into the area called for up to four inches of rain, he said. However, colder temperatures moved through the area instead. Daily said up to an inch of rain is now expected for the area.

"The've greatly reduced it in the last few hours," he said of the rainfall predicted by weather forecasters.

He doubted any flooding will occur in the area. However, should the unexpected happen, he said the township has sand bags ready.
