Worker Falls From Scaffolding

The 40-year-old was working at the under-construction AutoZone on Route 19.

A 40-year-old man was unconscious and bleeding after falling from scaffolding at the AutoZone under construction at 20232 Route 19 in Cranberry.

Tim McCarty, project supervisor for Dalo Constructionout of Tipp City, Ohio said Valentine Lopez, of Hamilton, Ohio was flown by medical helicopter to a hospital in Pittsburgh after the fall. 

McCarty said Lopez was applying plywood to the V-shaped section near the roof at the store's entrance at about 8:45 a.m. Friday when he fell from the scaffolding.

Lopez landed on a pallet of concrete blocks, striking his head, McCarty said. He believes Lopez had a broken jaw among his injuries. 

Jeff Schueler, Cranberry’s public safety director, said did not know the man’s condition. Sgt. Chuck Mascellino said he believes the man was taken to Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh.

He said police are still trying to gather information in the incident.

An Occupational Saftey and Health Administration spokeswoman said the agency is looking into the fall.
