Two Hospitalized After Crash with Flatbed Truck in Jackson Township

The driver of the truck was not injured.

Two elderly people were hospitalized Friday they crashed into a flatbed truck traveling in the opposite direction along Route 68 in Jackson Township. 

Jackson police said 84-year-old  Gene Johnston, of Renfrew, was driving east on the highway near Edmond Street around noon when she crossed over the center line and collided with the truck. 

Johnston suffered serious injuries in the crash, according to police. She was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh.

Her passenger, Ethel Smith, 99, of Zelienople, also suffered serious injuries. She was taken by ambulance to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. 

The driver of the flatbed truck was not injured.

Harmony EMS, Harmony and Zelienople firefighters also responded to the crash.
