Two-Car Accident Ties Up Route 19 after Cranberry Community Days

The northbound lanes of Route 19 at Rowan Road were shut down for about an hour Saturday after a two-car accident that occurred near the end of

said the driver of a Chrysler 200 was traveling north on the highway at about 10 p.m. when he collided with a Subaru turning left from Route 19 onto Rowan Road in the opposite direction.

The female driver of the Subaru and her passenger were both taken by ambulance to in Cranberry for minor injuries.

The driver of the Chrysler refused treatment, police said.

Sgt. Chuck Mascellino said the accident was not related to traffic from Community Days, which ended with a fireworks display shortly before the collision.

No charges have been filed yet in the incident, according to police. The names of the drivers have not yet been released.

Corey Peters said he was selling light-up stuff from Randy’s Novelties in the parking lot of the Viola shopping plaza, which is located at the intersection of Route 19 and Rowan Road, when the cars collided.

“I just heard this huge boom,” he said.

Along with his mother, Renee Piroth, Peters and others in the parking lot rushed over to the cars to see if they could help. Piroth said she called 911 when the female driver and her passenger exited the car. The passenger had a cut above his eye and also an injury to his ankle, she said.

The highway reopened shortly after the cars were towed from the scene.
