Suspect in Cranberry Car Thefts Arrested After Police Pursuit

Cranberry man leads police on high-speed chase into Beaver County

Following a high-speed chase that led into Beaver County, Cranberry Police have arrested a local man suspected in more than a dozen recent thefts from motor vehicles in Cranberry and the surrounding area.

At about midnight Monday morning, officers were called to Windsor Court in Cranberry for reports of a suspicious vehicle in the area.

According to police, residents saw 36-year-old Timothy Tubridy, who was driving a white Chevrolet Impala, park his car on the roadway and begin checking the door handles of vehicles parked in the neighborhood’s driveways.

As police arrived on the scene, Tubridy’s car was exiting the neighborhood. Tubridy refused to pull over for officers and a pursuit on Glen Eden Road into Beaver County ensued.

Cranberry Police Lt. Kevin Meyer said the chase was terminated after speeds reached in excess of 80 mph.

A short time later, Cranberry officers were notified New Sewickley police had pulled Tubridy over on Brunner Road and taken him into custody.

At the time of his arrest, Tubridy was carrying a wallet belonging to a Windsor Court resident, police said.

After a search of Tubridy’s home on Glen Eden Road in Cranberry, investigators discovered two handguns, electronics and other items that recently had been reported stolen from unlocked cars throughout the community.

Following the search of his home, Tubridy again attempted to escape police custody. He was recaptured after a short foot pursuit.

Tubridy is charged with one count each of theft, receiving stolen property, escape, fleeing, reckless driving, driving without lights to avoid arrest and theft from a motor vehicle.

He was arraigned Monday before District Justice Timothy Shaffer in Slippery Rock and taken to Butler County Prison on a $50,000 cash/surety bond.

Since June 17, police have received 18 reports of thefts from motor vehicles. In nearly every case, the car doors were left unlocked, police said.

Meyer said the break-ins took place in Seven Fields, Blue Ridge, Cranberry West, Timberline, Fox Run and numerous other neighborhoods across the township.

Tubridy also is a suspect in motor vehicle thefts in the last several weeks from neighboring communities.

Police continue to investigate the thefts.
