State Troopers Help Deliver Baby on I-79

The baby and mother are both in good health, said State Trooper Robin Mungo.

Two from the Moon Township-based Troop D barracks helped a woman give birth to a baby girl earlier today on Interstate 79.

State police responded to the woman, who had pulled off onto the side of the interstate near the State Route 279 split, after she called 911 and said she was in labor, said Trooper Robin Mungo.

Mungo said the baby was delivered from the backseat of the women's car. The mother and daughter were taken to UPMC Magee Women's Hospital, where they were listed in good condition.

Mungo said she could not yet release the names of the troopers involved.
