Seneca Valley Grad Killed in ATV Accident During Visit to Montana Park

Viewings for 18-year-old Carmen Rizzi will be held on Monday.

A 2011 graduate of l was killed Tuesday evening in an accident involving an all-terrain vehicle in Montana.

Carmen Rizzi, 18, died while she was accompanying her family on a Make-A-Wish trip to Glacier National Park for her brother Dominic, who has epilepsy, according to WPXI.

Sgt. Tom Seifert, deputy coroner of the Glacier County Sheriff’s office, said the Zelienople teen was driving an ATV on a gravel road in the park and was unable to navigate a turn after a canal bridge. After she hit the brakes, she lost control of the ATV, which rolled over several times before landing in a rock-filled ditch, Seifert said.

She died after an ambulance took her to the nearest hospital, 28 miles away in Browning, MT, Seifert said. He said she was wearing a helmet.

According to her obituary, Rizzi was a member of the volleyball and track teams while at Seneca Valley. A black belt in karate, she loved bonfires and family gatherings, where she enjoyed playing board games, the obituary said.

She had been accepted to Ohio State University and was planning to study pre-law and psychology there in the fall, the obituary said.  

Viewings for Rizzi will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 9 p.m. on Monday at Boylan Funeral Home Inc. on East Grandview Avenue in Zelienople. A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at in Zelienople.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Rizzi’s honor to the Miracle League of Southwestern Pennsylvania.
