A 42-year-old Missouri man was killed, and his passenger was seriously injured, in two-car crash on Interstate 79 North near Cranberry Friday Morning.
State police at Butler said Joseph South, of Cuba, Mo., was parked along the berm of the highway around 10 a.m. when he suddenly pulled onto the roadway directly in front of an oncoming pickup truck that was towing a camper.
The driver of the truck attempted to brake, but was unable to avoid a collision, police said.
South, whom police said was not wearing a seatbelt, died after the truck struck the driver’s side of the car he was driving.
South’s 20-year-old female passenger also was severely injured in the crash, police said. She was taken to an area hospital.
The driver of the truck and his passenger were not injured in the collision.
The crash caused traffic backups on Cranberry’s main corridors Friday as emergency responders attended to the scene.
