Police Seeking Info After Cranberry Woman Said Gunman Accosted Her in Giant Eagle Parking Lot

The woman told police a man demanded her wallet Dec. 29.

Cranberry police continue to on Dec. 29 in which a woman said a man she didn't know pointed a gun at her in the parking lot of the and demanded her wallet.

Sgt. Chuck Mascellino said Tuesday that police are waiting on surveillance footage from the grocer chain to aid the investigation.

“We’re just waiting for video to hopefully have some more information,” he said.

He said police have received no reports of similar incidents around the area.

According to police, the 48-year-old Cranberry woman was returning to her car about 11 p.m. Thursday when a man in the car parked next to her vehicle shouted for her to give him her wallet.

The woman told police she believed the white man, who she described as being in his 30s with an average build, then pointed a gun at her. When she failed to comply, he again asked her for her wallet, according to the police report.

Instead of giving up her wallet, Mascellino said the woman ran into the Giant Eagle store. The staff called 911, and the man drove out of the parking lot, he said. 

Mascellino said the driver was in a dark-colored car. Its make and model aren't known to police.

Investigators are asking anyone with information or who may have noticed anything unusual in the area before or after the incident to call at 724-776-5180.

Others who may find themselves in a similar situation should consider their safety needs before giving a response, Mascellino said.

“They need to consider their personal safety paramount to anything else,” he said.
