Cranberry Man Shot in Road Dispute

Preliminary investigation shows the incident was a result of road rage.

On Monday Pennsylvania State Police told Patch that they planned to interview a Cranberry Township man who was shot Friday night in what authorities are classifying as a road-rage incident.

“We’re hoping to be able to interview the victim,” Lt. Steve J. Ignatz told Patch Monday morning. Police said they are trying to determine what led to the shooting. Ignatz would not confirm today if that interview did in fact take place.

Jackson Township Police Chief Terry Seilhamer, whose officers were first on the scene, has been in touch with state police regarding the incident. He confirmed that an interview would take place Monday and said it's crucial that the interview happen soon because witness recollection diminishes with every day that passes.

David Getty, 45, of Cranberry was shot twice about 11:30 p.m. Friday after a dispute that began on Route 19. Seilhamer said Getty received a superficial wound when a bullet grazed him. Another shot struck him near the ribs, Seilhamer said.

According to troopers, Getty and his girlfriend were driving south on Route 19 in Jackson Township when they became involved in an altercation with the driver of another southbound car.

Getty turned off Route 19 and headed west on Zehner School Road. Troopers said he and his girlfriend believe the other car's driver made a U-turn and followed them. Getty told troopers he pulled over and then he and his girlfriend, who was not identified, got out of their car and walked toward the other vehicle.

Investigators said Getty was shot when the man inside the other car fired several times at him.

After the incident on Zehner School Road, Getty and his girlfriend drove to in Cranberry. According to state police, Getty was ultimately treated at UPMC Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh, where he was admitted in critical condition. A UPMC spokeswoman on Tuesday said no information about Getty is available but Lt. Ignatz told Patch that Getty is expected to make a full recovery.

The car is described as a light-colored sedan. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact state police in Butler at 724-284-8100.
