After Robinson Township Police searched for him for several hours Thursday night, a missing Mars Area School District student turned up on a hillside outside Montour High School.
The 13-year-old boy went missing before 8 p.m. after taking part in a wrestling match at Montour. Police said he turned up after 11 p.m. and was sent to Heritage Valley Sewickley hospital to be evaluated.
Robinson Police Chief Dale Vietmeier said the boy is a special-needs student. He ran away after a dispute with his parents following the wrestling match.
Police used a dog to track his scent through the wooded area outside the high school and in the Clever Road area.
"The dog tracked him for a long way, and couldn't find him," Vietmeier said. "He traveled quite a distance."
Vietmeier said the boy was "distraught and cold" when he emerged on his own. He was not injured in the incident.
