Police Continue to Investigate Armed Robbery at Cranberry BP

The shotgun-toting suspect was wearing a hoodie with a fire company logo on it.

Cranberry Police are continuing to investigate an armed robbery last week at the BP gas station on Route 19.

“We have a couple of strong leads,” said Sgt. Chuck Mascellino.

On April 16, a man carrying a shotgun entered the Cranberry convenience store and ordered the cashier to "give him the money."

The employee turned over an undisclosed amount of cash before the robber ran from the store.

Mascellino said the incident took less than a minute from the time the man walked in and took off. Police searched the area with the help of a K-9 officer, but were not able to locate the suspect.

The suspect is described as a white male with a thin build, about 5-foot-9 inches to 6-feet tall.

At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with an unknown fire company logo printed on back of it. The name of the station is not legible in the surveillance photos made available to the public.

Mascellino said the name on the hoodie is part of the police investigation.

The Cranberry Volunteer Fire Company also is asking fellow firefighters for help in identifying the robber.

The fire company posted the surveillance photo of the suspect on its Facebook page shortly after the robbery.

“If you have any idea what department around has a hoodie that looks like this please let us know and we will forward to our PD,” the fire company’s status said.

“This individual makes firefighters look bad and we need to get this guy off the streets. This guy may not belong to a Fire Department, but any leads could help our PD.”

Since April 18, the photo the fire company posted has been shared 303 times. As of Thursday, more than 37,000 people have viewed it.

Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to contact Cranberry Police at 724-776-5180 ext. 5.
