Police Arrest Suspect in Cranberry Burglaries

Artine Shirvani is accused a burglarizing homes in Cranberry and Economy.

A Cranberry man remains in custody today after police said he burglarized a home Friday in Cranberry Township.

Sgt. Chuck Mascellino said Artine Shirvani, 25, of Woodhollow Drive also is a suspect in  in the past several weeks, including in the Cranberry West, Creekwood and Crossings neighborhoods.

Shirvani is charged with burglary, theft, receiving stolen property and criminal use of communications facility in the Aug. 12 burglary of the home on North Boundary Drive. Mascellino said Shirvani took prescription medications and jewelry from the home.

Mascellino said Shirvani already was a suspect in the township burglaries before Friday’s incident.

On July 31, Mascellino said police were called to a Cranberry hotel because Shirvani was highly intoxicated. Police found Shirvani with $2,500 in cash and jewelry on him that officers believe was taken from a home July 28 in Economy. Mascellino declined to name the hotel.

Besides jewelry Mascellino said $12,000 and a police badge was reported missing from the Economy home. Shirvani is charged with receiving stolen property in that incident, Mascellino said.

Mascellino said detectives already had Shirvani's home under surveillance Friday when the burglary on North Boundary Road was reported around 4 p.m. When Shirvani returned home, officers arrested him. Mascellino said Shirvani was carrying items confirmed as taken from the home. 

“We were actually watching his house when the burglary was reported,” Mascellino said.

Shirvani remains in Butler County Jail Tuesday. Mascellino said an investigation of the other burglaries is ongoing.
