Penn Power at Scene of Downed Utility Pole in CranMar Plaza

The utility company is working to restore power.

Penn Power is working to restore power after a utility pole fell into the parking lot of the CranMar shopping plaza on Route 19 Monday night, bringing power lines down with it.

President Bruce Hezlep said he did not know how many people lost power due tothe downed pole, which carried several transformers. He also did not know what caused the pole to fall into the plaza's parking lot, located north of Rochester Road on Route 19.

He said the pole was not struck by a car and already was on the ground when firefighters arrived at the plaza around 9 p.m.

Hezlep added it was lucky the pole fell in the direction of the empty lot rather than onto busy Route 19, where it could have blocked traffic.

As of 10 p.m. the company's fire police officers were still directing traffic on Route 19 as Penn Power worked to restore power.
