Motorcyclist Dies in Muddy Creek Crash

Thomas Shaffer was exiting Route 422 for when he lost control of the bike.

State police at Butler said a Slippery Rock man was speeding before he died Sunday in motorcycle crash in Muddy Creek Township.

Thomas L. Shaffer, 49, was riding east on Route 422 at about 6:20 p.m. when he exited the highway for Route 19. Police said Shaffer failed to negotiate a curve on the ramp due to excessive speed and struck an embankment.

He was thrown from the motorcycle and died at the scene, according to police. Troopers said Shaffer was wearing a helmet.
