The road was shut down for several hours near the Cranberry Highlands Golf Course.

A motorcycle rider died after a crash along Freshcorn Road near the Cranberry Highlands Golf Course Monday evening.

Sgt. Chuck Mascellino said Roger Haynes, 31, of Bellevue, was riding on Freshcorn Road with several other bikers at about 5:15 p.m. when he attempted to go around a vehicle that was stopped on Freshcorn Road.

Police shut down the road in the area near the crash, including at the intersection of Glen Eden Road and Freshcorn Road and at the intersection of Winterbrook Drive in Heights Drive in the Cranberry Heights neighborhood for several hours Monday.

West Virginia resident Mike Rogers said he was practicing his swing on Cranberry’s Highlands driving range when he heard three sports motorcycles approaching the area.

“You could hear them coming about 15 to 20 seconds before you saw them,” he said.

Rodgers said he watched as one of the riders attempted to pass a vehicle that was turning left on Freshcorn Road and lost control of his motorcycle.

The motorcycle went airborne, hitting nearby trees. The rider was thrown from the bike, Rogers said.

“The bike went flying 20 to 25 feet in the air,” Rodgers said.

Mascellino said Haynes was wearing a helmet. No one else was injured in the crash.
