Sunday Morning Fire on Franklin Road Damages Cranberry Home

Firefighters quickly extinguish the flames; residents unharmed.

Crews quickly extinguished a fire that started in the basement of a home on Franklin Road in Cranberry Township early Sunday morning.

Brian Kovac said the fire at 7340 Franklin Road was fully involved in the basement when volunteers arrived on the scene at about 4:45 a.m. They doused the flames within 20 minutes.

“They get a big atta-boy today,” Kovac said of his crew. “They did a great job.”

The chief said the Marner family owns the two-story home. A father and his adult son who were inside the building at the time of the fire were unharmed and waiting outside when fire crews arrived at the building. There were no injuries.

"They both got out, no problem," Kovac said of the Marners.

The fire was contained to the basement, but there is smoke damage throughout the house, Kovac said. He did not have an estimate of the damage.

The cause of the fire has not been determined. Kovac said the cause of the fire is not believed to be suspicious. Firefighters from Marshall, Adams Area and Big Knob fire departments also responded to the scene.
